Hucclecote Netball Club (HNC)

Hucclecote U16's v Wales

I took a selection of the Hucclecote U16's to play against Wales U17's this weekend in Cwmbran. We had a big squad of 12 and this was a chance to see different line ups ready for Jersey next weekend. We had no doubt at all that this was going to be easy and that we would have to work hard at all times. We played 8x10 minutes to allow lots of changes for both teams and it was good for me to see different players in different positions, and seeing which lines up worked better than others. Every player who went should be extremely proud because they played their socks off and wereextremely disciplined and performed some great netball. It was a contested andfriendly game and there was some extremely good and powerful play by both teams. We were close to them in the first three games with only losing the quarters by 2 then 3 then 4 however then Wales started to take the edge. The final score didn't reflect the game and the Wales coach was extremely impressed by our girls quoting, "Your GD is amazing, is she welsh?" "Your shooters destroyed are defence on penalties."

Shooters shot brilliantly on the day and were not fazed by the 6"5(roughly) GK, mid-court worked hard to bring the ball down to the shooters effectively and defence were brilliant at turning the ball and force the ball off the backline.

J Taylor was also able to have a run out which I was pleased about and this was a great experience for all our players and have given them confidence that they can go and win next weekend. It as also positive that when the players were on the bench they were able to see where we could improve and what was going well and that the whole squad was very supportive of one another.

Wales provided teas for the girls and Anna performed a little thank you speech.

Well Done girls!!!
