Hucclecote B 49 – Plymouth Marjons 49
Hucclecote B played host to Marjons this Saturday with Cote keen to put on a great performance. The first quarter started well for the home side with confident play from both shooters Kellie Hull and Sarah Llewellyn both scoring 6 out of their 7 shots. Defence remained tight and stuck to task forcing Plymouth to work hard getting the ball to their shooters. The end quarter finished all square at 12 – 12.
Entering the second quarter Hucclecote went out strong looking to put pressure on Marjons with tight defence and quick play through court. Dominant play by Lucy Werrell at WD saw her take an impressive interception which was then converted. By the end of the period Hucclecote had edged ahead by 1 goal, score line 23 – 22
By now it was clear it was anyone’s game and Hucclecote had to reduce the error rate to stay in the game. Half time changes in attack saw Mille Price take the WA bib proving an asset in the attacking unit. Tireless defending from Hayley Neate put immense pressure on ex Hucclecote player Lydia Hallbrook who struggled at times to get in the shooting circle. Hucclecote kept their heads in front stretching the lead by 7 goals at one point. Some errors by Hucclecote and great composure from Marjons saw this reduced, Score at end of Q 3 35 – 34
The final 15 minutes and both teams were going out to take the game. Noise levels rose both from team benches and the supporters. Goals were being matched and play moved quickly from end to end. Both teams made every effort to gain possession. Great athelticism from both Rebecca Campbell and Taryn Lawrence saw Hucclecote take the ball from Marjons. Frustratingly for Hucclecote though it at times got given away before we could convert. In the latter minutes play became scrappy as both teams worked frantically to get the ball to their shooting third. A quick final break from Marjons resulting in a goal saw the Plymouth side equalize in the final minutes, final score 49 – 49. Hucclecote, although gutted in defeat, can be proud of their performance and a great team effort against Plymouth Marjons who have just come down from Regional 1.
