20 January 2018 - This weeks round up..
Hurricanes v Lightning is always
Hurricanes v Lightning is always a closely contested match & today was no exception. With both teams missing players, both squads put on an excellent display of fast paced skilful netball.
Lightning took an early 4 goal lead with some excellent shooting by Ellie Parker & Ella Flatman but by the end of the first Q Hurricanes had edged into the lead 15-9.
Eve Wright at GS for Hurricanes really began to nail her shots netting 18/18 though defence duo Abi Tucker & Grace Cappell worked tirelessly to cut out the feed.
The 2nd half was more even with Lightning playing confidently, letting the ball move at pace only losing the 3rd Q by 1 goal.
With Ellie & Ella converting every opportunity, Lightning took the final Q 13-8!
There were some fab performances by a number of players in both teams.
Ella Flatman at GA playing calmly & intelligently out of position. Beth Atkins on fire at WD. as was her counterpart Laura Dixon.
Halle Meddick for her precision feeds into the shooters. Jenny Graham who played with flair @ C for Lightning & Mouse @ GK tipping & turning ball in the circle.
Player of the match though went jointly to Nina Perry & Ellie Parker for Lightning & Becky Vaughn for Hurricanes.
Final result a win for Hurricanes 54-41.
Storm were desperately unlucky not to at least gain a draw in their match with Challengers losing by 1 as the final whistle went.
This was a game of 2 half’s where Challengers took a commanding lead 23-12 @ half time.
At this stage Storm were only hoping to get a point from the game, but the 3rd Q they netted 6 goals before their opponents had even put a shot up!
Georgie Palmer coming on at GA
made a real impact, linking well with Nadine Baird at GS between them converting 12 to Challengers 10.
Going into the final Q still
8 adrift it was a fab fight back by all 7 on court to close the gap to level the score with seconds on the clock.
It was really hard to single out an individual as it was a fantastic effort by the whole squad throughout the 60 mins but 2 players just edged it!
Alice Bradley in her first full game for 18 months turned so much ball at GK & Georgie Palmer at GA, coming on at half time & netting 15/17.
Final result 39-40!
